I encouraged Seth to post this thread to get opinions... I had originally pm'd him about this machine in response to another topic he has up looking to trade his AMD for a P4.
When I saw that post, I was on my way out the door to go out of town for the weekend. I did NOT know what his mobo was, nor if the processor was a t-bred or pally. Anyway, when I got back he had answered the question. I had decided at that point that this machine really was not what he was looking for. In fact, without putting up money (due to the fact that Intel flat out costs more than AMD) he was not going to get a better machine.
Seth and I talked on the phone about this, and I insisted that he check it out, that the machine really wasn't going to be an improvement to his situation. I had priced out each component so he could see that the value I set on the machine was not out of line. What I did NOT expect was him to still actually want it. He actually freaked me out by replying "YOU HAVE A DEAL"
The funniest thing here is that I couldn't use his machine.... that didn't matter, he still wanted the mobo/cpu/ram.
Anyway... that was what his post here is about, to have someone other than me tell him this wasn't the best deal for his goals.
Now... interestingly, he was willing to spend some money to get this. I am thinking his best bet is to venture into the nForce2 world and a Barton and DDR. He would spend as much as he was trying to pay me, and would easily double his performance. <--- Now lets talk him into that

PS... thanks for letting me get this out, and Seth, sorry I had to post this, because by bringing my name into this without this info you sort of made me look like a troll (and I forgive you, cuz I honestly know that was NOT your intention... you struck me a quite the good kid, and very very bright too.) And for your need for Intel.... trust me, unless you are going for a $300 processor, AMD is the way to go
