how not to treat a computer ! kind long !

Post by renovation »

i got a call today from a friend today - with computer problems .
i got there tonight and find .
the case is smashed on the top and side panel !
i was aware the side panel was dented last time i was there !
so no biggie .it was a software problem last time .
this time the son saids he down loaded a demo game 3-4 days ago and been having problems sense.
ok i figure just delete demo and fix right . O- no i cant get it to go past a blue screen and ctl. alt .delete no work so i power it off at the p.s. !
same thing again !
next i deside wait a bit longer and start it up .
this time i get a black screen start windows in safe or normal mode .
i say normal and it loads and go to scan disk and checks windows for errors fine .then all seems ok its up and running -check the read me of the game he downloaded and it seems ok and i deside just to be safe i will delete it !
but first i try running it !
it crashs and that same blue screen !
so i turn machine off
go to restart and it starts to load and from reading error it said may be bio error !
and to press f-8 and check bios !
i do and the bios pops up but its a blank bios page . i can page up and page down but its empty !
so i desided i better turn off the unit again and retry .this time it just restarts right to this the bios page .
and it this point i deside its a take home and try and fix !
so i unplug it and lift the unit ! and i hear a hell of a racket in the case as i lift it .
so i desided to ask for a screw driver and open it up and fine that the cpu fan is free floating in the case :(
still powered put broke right off the heatsink !

i think there son was thinking he was the hulk and the case was a tank :(
also have been told to keep the unit at my house till there son moves out !
the Last time I was Talking to myself . I got into such a heated argument . that is why I swore I never talk to that guy again. you know what it worked now no buddy talking to me. :help

Lives? From what i recall, it only takes a fraction of a second for the CPU to fry without a heatsink... even if it isn't friend, wouldn't it have burnt out?

I think the heatsink was still clipped over the cpu, and the fan broke off the heatsink.
