Hey all,

Real quick.... can someone please give me the lowdown on the order of drivers for an Athlon Windows install. I know that Windows goes first, then after that I cant really remember. Next, I think the VIA 4in1s, then the Video card drivers, and lastly DirectX/Sound/Other. Any assistance, website/guidelines, or directions is greatly appreciated :) DocSilly, do you have any imput as your the resident DOC!!!

Thanks

Here is the order I used, and didn't have any issues.

OS install.
Network Card drivers (for net access).
4N1 drivers.
Video card drivers
Sound card drivers
Direct X

To be honest I really don't think the order is an issue at all.

Doc just got his 1GIG Athalon, MSI K7TPRO 2-A combo so I assume he is still tweakin it.

IM: It sounds like you've got the right order. OS, 4in1, video, diretX

Ducky,

Actually the order is very very important with the VIA chipset. I know that if you do the video drivers prior to the 4in1s, games and most 3D programs are skrewed! I know this from spending numerous hours trying to un-skrew my machine from applying the drivers in that order ;) Bio, thanks buddy :) Also, would the OS be the determining factor in the order as well... Like WinME vs Win 98SE?

Hmmmm .. so if you gotta update your 4N1 drivers .. ya uninstall your video drivers and reinstall after? ... doesn't sound right

I just did all this also. 4in1 have to go right after OS install, everything else follows whichever way you like. I read and was told that the 4in1 immediatley after OS is very important!

However I also upgraded to a Geforce on my Athlon system a few months back and installed the 4in1 last as I never knew about them until I inquired why performance was so c@ck :) It works just fine and I got a 100% performance boost.

Anyways, the newest system I installed successfully yesterday with good performance in Q3A:

OS
4in1
Network Card and settings
Detonators for GF 2 MX
DX8
Soundcard drivers

As long as you get the 4in1 right after OS install you should be OK whatever you do after that :)
