Need some help with Firewalls
My dad has a firewall set up and I can't upload ANYTHING. I've never worked with firewalls so I don't know much about them except what they do. I need to find a way to disable and enable it with out him knowing, so I don't wanna just turn it off if I Dont' now how to turn it back on
It's McAfee Personal Firewall. Any suggestions are welcomed.

what you need to find out is how to access the router to set it up and open the ports
for instance, mine is a crappy belkin. I gotta open up explorer and type 192.168.2.1 and it takes me to the set up page
there is usually no username or password needed to get it. If it asks for one, just hit enter without giving one
in there, there should be all sorts of options. like setting up the ports so incomming connections go to your internal IP

YOU DO NOT need to open any ports on a Linksys router to do regular uploads via FTP. I use Linksys routers all the time.
I have no idea what 6112 is, but it's certainly not FTP. I'd think twice about doing any file sharing without your Dad's permission.
You also DO NOT want to put your father's computer on DMZ as it will be COMPLETELY EXPOSED to the internet, defeating the firewall feature of the router.

i'll throw in my .02....
i would vote for just asking him to do it himself. would you want your father snooping around your pc and changing settings for himself without telling you or asking? a firewall by default will not block uploads like that...so he may be blocking that sort of stuff intentionally. if you have a valid reason to upload via ftp then just ask him and he shouldn't have a problem with it.
better safe than sorry...
