Ez-bios?

Post by eGoCeNTRoNiX »

WTF is this POS? I'm fixing an old computer for some friends of mine that I sold them a while back, and I installed windows and now I'm getting some EZ-BIOS shit that won't let me boot to windows.. Just says invalid system disk. Anybody heard of it? I just finished formating the HD again and I'm gonna install windows and see what happens.. Any ideas? Thanx.. eGo

Not sure but seems like I remember some trouble like that when I used the utility from Western Digital to partition and format a drive. It gave me all kinds of trouble until I finally used the same utility to go back in and disable it and then use fdisk to blow the partitions away and start over.

I may have to look into that. I pulled the drive (a WD) out of an OLD Gateway 2000. It's a 6.4GB and I'm in the middle of a windows install. If it doesn't go this time, I'm gonna fdisk it and see what happens. I guess I'll have to try and download the WD util too.. That's a hassle.. Anyways.. Thanx For the Ideas Dad, and if anyone else has any.. LMK eGo

Go to http://www.wdc.com and get ver 10 of the tools. Make the floppy disk and boot to it. Then uninstall easy bios. Then you'll be good to go. :) Been there, done that and it confused the hell out of me.

I believe ez-bios was made to help motherboards support larger hard drives than what they were made for. But from my experience it was more trouble than it was worth.

That's the hassle with all those old software BIOS apps they used. Yeah, it allowed outdated hardware to address bigger drives, BUT it's like a virus. You can't get rid of it by formatting or re-partitioning (not even sure if a low level would work unless you wiped the boot sectors).

It sits in there and then some poor unsuspecting sod down the road tries to format the drive and finds it doesn't work right.

Yah, it's definatley more trouble than it's worth.. lol.. Nascar pointed me in the right direction, but I actually had to go to the older version because V10 kept locking up. Went to the older one, and it did it's thing, no more problems. Thanx for all the input guys! eGo
