Dual-Channel DDR

Post by RubberDuckie »

Could someone explain what this is and how it works?
I am about to install a new mobo with this feature. Does it requrie special RAM? Do you have to install 2 RAM sticks?

Sorry if thse questions sound elementary...but I am curious.
Thanks

what kind of board? dual channel requires 2 sticks of ram. Each stick is 64 bit running 2 sticks in dual makes it look like 128bit thus basically doubling the bandwidth. On the Nforce2 u can run 1 stick by itself but it will only be single channel. i'm not real sure about the granite bay chipset for intel though...

How do you know if it is running in "dual channel" mode?
I have the two sticks installed in the proper slots and at boot up it only shows memory running at 166mhz. Im assuming that is "333", correct?

I guess Im showing how long it has been since I upgraded.

Duckie which Nforce2 board do you have. On the Epox I believe there is an updated bios that tells you if you are in dual channel on boot up.
