I've setup my old P-233 laptop in the living room to listen to music and streamed audio. Suprisingly, my favorite MP3 player Winamp runs like crap on it - stutters a lot (I'm using Winamp 2.8). Tried version 2.2 with the same results.
I tried RealOne (the newest Real player) because it was already installed for listening to streamed news, and suprisingly it plays MP3s without stuttering. However RealOne is a BIG app and takes a long time to load.
Wanted to know if anyone can suggest some alternatives for music. Small memory footprint, must support .M3U playlists and random shuffle. 3-band EQ at a minimum, but 10 band would be better.
Thanks...
Need a recommendation for an MP3 player for a SLOW system.

Well, theres Sonique, a DOS based mp3 player that plays well on even a lowly 486 named DAMP, heck you can even check out mp3.com's software list and see if there's a player you like under there.
I used to use damp a log time ago, I don't remember if it has the EQ you need or not. If you partial to winamp though, you can DL versions from 0.20 to the current one over at Oldversion.com
Hope it helps!

I think I discovered my problem. The stutter only happens when I enable the EQ in Winamp. Must be a processor hog.
Since I only use it for browsing, MP3 playback and listening to NPR while I workout in the morning, I may just leave Real Player as the default MP3 player. Once you disable a lot of crap it loads pretty fast, and the EQ on it doesn't stutter like Winamp.
