Nonetheless, oil colors their decisions just as it colors ours. I would not be at all surprised if the French and other European countries were, in part, against the war because of fears that the flow of oil, Iraqi oil, OPEC oil, oil in general, would be cut off. For our part, we will certainly be happy to have the Iraqi oil under the control of someone more cooperative than Saddam.

Top secret documents obtained by The Telegraph in Baghdad show that Russia provided Saddam Hussein's regime with wide-ranging assistance in the months leading up to the war, including intelligence on private conversations between Tony Blair and other Western leaders.
Moscow also provided Saddam with lists of assassins available for "hits" in the West and details of arms deals to neighbouring countries. The two countries also signed agreements to share intelligence, help each other to "obtain" visas for agents to go to other countries and to exchange information on the activities of Osama bin Laden, the al-Qa'eda leader.

As far as the rape, murder, torture etc. of Iraqi's, neither you, me, or the United States of America gave a rat's ass about that in the first fifteen to twenty years Saddam was doing it. We sure didn't care in the 80's, when we sent military advisers to Iraq to help them fight Iran. He was our bud then.

Please don't ask me to believe this war was fought to free the Iraqi's from oppression and torture. If you believe it, you are entitled to your delusion, but you better start compiling a list of all the countries, some of whom are our allies, that we will have to invade to set their people free from torture, rape and oppression.
