Monitor troubles

Post by TheBattousai »

Here's the deal, my parents comp has been having problems with its monitor lately. It was randomly changing colors (go from normal colors to like a greenish tint). I tried another monitor on their computer, different cable and all, and it did the same thing, but this time yellowish color i believe. Then I hooked up their monitor to my comp, and it worked just fine. So i thought it had to be something with the video (built into mobo on PII Gateway). I bought them a new PCI video card, and for awhile it worked, but now it is doing the color change thing and flickers VERY BADLY. Any advice as to what steps i should take???

you've done the vid card swap

clean their computer out - make sure there are no dust bunnies in any of the fans, heatsinks, etc.
make sure you clean out the power supply too - dust on the mobo can cause shorts if there's enough

i was replacing machines at work ond the intakes on two machines were completely clogged with dust

the next likley source is you power supply - check the gateway site to MAKE SURE that haven't done any cute pin switching on the power conector and then try with another PS
