Anyone using an SATA adapter? I'm going to be building a new box with an ASUS A7N8X board using two WDse 80 gig drives with SATA adapters to set up a RAID 0. I was just wondering if anyone had done this and how it worked out...
if you're doing an ATA -> SATA, i'd have to say you shouldn't see any performance gains (mebbe a slightly cooler running pc though and the extra bandwidth from RAID)... btw, i'm not clear as to whether you wanted to go SATA for performance gains or to take advantage of the RAID controller... cuz if you wanted RAID, it's prolly cheaper to get a RAID ATA controller for the drives instead of 2 SATA adapters (unless prices have changed since i last checked on them)
the bottleneck would still be the same (the ATA interface)
those adapters are primarily for helping with backwards compatibility when SATA becomes mainstream

yea, at this point there is no reason to use those adaptors unless you have no choice. no gains and they require extra power plugs as they are not passive.

I'll be using the GALAXY SERIAL ATA/ULTRA ATA adapters. They were $28 each. I suppose this wasn't the cheapest way of setting up RAID but I wanted to use the onboard stuff. As long as these things work, I'll be happy. I should be getting the board delivered today, so I'll let you guys know how she turns in a couple days.
