now, perhaps I'm just being an ass, and I'm missing something, but--at staples, 120 GB hdd for $140, now is this before or after the $40 mail in rebate???

Looks to me like the $139.94 is before the rebate.
If you add the drive to the shopping cart it is for $139.94 and the rebate is downloadable.
Therefore you send in the rebate later.
