what kind of motherboard you got?
does it support the 8x?

I still would recommend the gainward. Not just cuase of the 8x, but i have seen a lot of 4200s been overclocked to the speeds equal of that of a ti4600.

But, after you build the system, you still might want to swap the cards just to see how each performs on your rig and then make a final decision

Welcome to the boards, dont hesitate to ask about anything when you are building your system :D

my mother board is an msi kt4 ultra handles the 8x, 2000anthlon xp procesor, 512 pc2700 ddr. i was also wonderin bout the possible over heating of the gainward card as not too much in the way of heat sinks for it as the leadtek has a giant one an 2 fans on it . thank you for replying. so this gainward card over clocks well you hear to the higher cards. that sounds good to me. ned53

well thats what makes the difference, the cooling

does the gainward have the ram heatsinks like in the picture on this site?
http://www.gainward.com/c-1.html?id=72#

If it DOES have the heatsinks, and looks identical, then I still say go with the gainward. Looks to be a winner of a card

Not sure how the leadtek card is layed out, or its cooling situation. when deciding between vid cards, you gotta consider a few things

1- the cooling
2- the speeds
3- what you are gonna be using it for
4- will you be overclocking

And if you are still undecided, then run 3dmark 2001se and some simple graphic benchmarking tests and see which scores higher and how each one performs in the games you play

yes thats the gainward card i got in the box. i believe i will put it in this new puter an leave the leadtek where its at. the leadteck is covered over a third of the back of the card an over a third of the front with a solid heatsink with fins, looks perty impresive. thanks ned

Not sure what AGP8X on the mobo has to do with anything. Image

The core of the Gainward card is 250 MHz and the memory is 515MHz. However Gainward does support overclocking.

The Leadtek GF4 Ti 4400 is 275 core/ 550 memory and afaik its a solid overclocker.

Yeah but running the card at 8x, isnt going to make any difference right now, and plus may even bottleneck it.
