finished setting up my new motherboard (the gigabyte GA-7avxp ultra) and I have to say....its a nice board. the ram slots are a little too close together (the ramspreaders are barely touching) but it is a nice jump up from my old 266 msi board.
Identical hardware in both (except the absence of a netgear NIC on the new system cause of the onboard nic). Ran 3dmark 2k1se with default settings on all hardware
266board- 9475
kt400- 10511
over a 1000 point jump from the new chipset. Cant wait to overclock this and see how much higher I can get it with the new board

ahh yes.....the firewire. Got an additional 4 usb2.0 ports as wellOriginally posted by FlyingPenguin
Damn nice looking mobo. Onboard Firewire,.... yummy![]()
But I have neither installed yet. Mostly cuase I dont have anything that uses firewire, and i am using the 2 usb ports on the back of the mobo and 2 that are wired to the front of the case JIC.

I use a gigabyte mobo too, the ga-7vrx. Love the blue color of these gigabytes and the cool-looking gold chipset heatsink.
Hope you enjoy it.

i am liking it.
I had some probs with the 3rd and 4th IDE on the board.
Right now, this is how i am running the system
IDE1- 120g Master (system HD)
IDE2- cd-rw Mas, dvd Sla
Now, i got the additional 2 ides that could be set as either raid or ata133. So in bios I set it as 133 so I can hook up another 80g and 40g on the same channel
When I boot up, it looks like the raid driver picks up the HDs on that channel, but they wont show up in windows. But when I changed them to the other additional IDE channel, they show up in windows. Does this mean that the IDE channel is bad? or was it that i put them on ide channel 4 without having anything on #3 so this caused them not to show up?
I am trying to not believe that my new mobo has a defect, but if it doesnt read anything off that ide channel, i dont wanna be hurt down the road if I decide to add more HDs.
should I RMA it already for a new one? (i bought it off newegg BTW)
