nForce2 performance... fact or fiction?
northbridge cooling
i stuck an 80mm case fan (or rather wedged it)between the hdd bay and the mobo blowing on the mobo and aimed at the northbridge - reported temps went from 47 to 41 while folding @2235 - this with an open case - i'm going to get out the ol' erector set type stuff and build a zalman type bracket for this - huge difference when the northbridge is cooled

Just got my 8RDA up and running, only thing holding me back on FSB is old Crucial ram, won't run over 170 or so, but the +2100 tbred B is clocking an easy 2.25 at 166/13.5 multiplier. Sound is quite good too. Easy setup and seems very stable. I wired a 50 mm fan onto the NB and new thermal paste on it too. Only bench I've run is 3dMark, getting around 14,000 with no tweaks to the 4600.

wvjohn, just curious, can you get Prime96 to run okay on that? Everything else runs fine, but if I don't back way off on everything, it crashes quickly and reboots. Not sure whether it's mem settings or OC on the cpu. Running voltage at 1.75 and 2.7 on mem. Higher voltage on the CPU makes me cringe
I guess I'm going to have to invest in some newer memory eventually.
I check in now and then, just haven't been into the computer much lately. Been playing with my motorscooter more and on the bike messageboards. When I saw the Tbred B's come in at decent price, figured it was time to play some more. Appreciate the welcome
Still playin' D2 or you have new love interest?
later,
sethpa

WooHoo! Up to 195 FSB and 2225 mghz out of the 2100 tbred! Still only at 1.7 Vcore too
This new Kingston HyperX is great stuff! Really afraid to go higher FSB, when I went too far with the old Samsung it fubar'd my bios big time. Lucked out with a reflash......... Runs everything stable, and still under 45C under load. Epox 8RDA's are the chimps' whiskers for cheap thrills. Enough with the computer, now to get back to moddin' the motor scooter
(last dyno run was 118 rwhp)

Tell me something about the dual channel ddr stuff. I hear some people saying the dual channel for nforce2 boards is worthless for AMD chips. I am going to go with a 2800 chip, haven't decided on the T-bred or Barton yet and probably a Asus a7n8x board with dual 512 mb chips. Will I have any problems getting CL2 chips to work on this board running at least 333 or maybe 400 speed on the memory.
Too many different views by many different people on this subject. What are the real facts on this dual DDR and the nforce2 board.
Thanks
