but I just had an idea
Through most benchmarks and reviews I have read, it seems that copper can take the heat off the processor faster than aluminum. But aluminum can get rid of the heat faster than the copper. So instead of just being all copper or all aluminum.....some heatsinks are a mix of the 2. An aluminum heatsink with a copper insert in the base.
So heres my idea, cant they melt and combine both copper and aluminum together? as to create a new metal hybrid? I am not sure on the melting properties of the 2, or their ability to mix well with other metals.
But if they can make a heatsink that is a aluminum/copper hybrid, it could have one of 2 effects
1- The mix is so good, it can absorb the heat right off the heatsink just like a normal copper heatsink or copper core, and since it has the properties of aluminum it can get rid of the heat just as quickly. The best of both worlds.
or 2- The mix creates a metal that instead of performing at the peaks of both of the metals create alone, they instead create an average. so instead of having coppers high heattransfer and low heatdispersal and aluminums low heattransfer and high heatdispersal, they have an average between the 2 neither high nor low.
Or instead of making it one metal hybrid all around, they layer it.
Copper base, hybrid metal middle, aluminum top/sides. The heat transfers between the copper core to the aluminum sink are normally like a sudden change. If you had the hybrid inbetween the 2, it would make the heat transision a little more smoother and faster
Of course I am just rambling now, kinda wanna go to bed
but what are you guys thoughts and opinions on my idea?

yea, I think mixing the 2 would take away both the positives each offers by them selves.

accordoing to my meatelurgey (sp) book... I rmember reading it is possible. but the result will be neither. the copper will not bond wiht the aluminium. instead think of it like this. shave both metals to dust, mix the crush so hard that it froms a new block of metal. Thats about how the makup of it would be if melted. That and when you do melt them, you have to use active cooling to harden both metals verry quickly after stirring. so its verry expensive to do and not worth the time or effort.
