The upgrade itch is rearing its ugly head again. Currently running an XP2000+ (almost a year old!!!!) at 1800 with the stock multiplier and a 145 FSB. Board is Rev. 1 Shuttle AK35GTR and I have two sticks of 256 mb PC 2100 (crucial and kingston). My CPU is still locked, my efforts to unlock it in the past have failed, and my eyes ain't getting any better. So I know what my max FSB is, but I don't know why - CPU, RAM, or Mainboard.
Anyway, I see the T-Bred B's out there and think - even though I have plenty of speed now - that it might be cool to go that route. Has my mainboard, even with better RAM, hit its limit at 145 mhz FSB? If it ain't my board, it certainly would be logical to expect that my PC2100 won't go much faster, so I would be into new RAM if I want a toasty FSB. If I buy new RAM, should I go with a single stick of 512 or buy two sticks to go in a NForce for dual channel? Worse yet, if I go to a new mainboard, should I go Nforce or KT400 or wait for the inevitable KT400a?
Inquiring minds want to know...
Thanks
Nforce? KT400? Wait a while longer?
I have the same shuttle you have and went to the epox 8rda+
my shuttle topped at about 145 as well with pc2100 and pc2700 - i read there was a newer bios that would get me 155 but why bother
i'm running the epox with 2x 512 stick of ram to get the 128 bit bus
using mixed pc2700/3200 i have gotten as high as 195 fsb (10x multi) with a 1700 tbred b
i would highly recommend the nforce for a couple of reasons
i good overclocker - unlocks treds in the mobo
- fast throughput - seems very stable - has onboard firewire, usb 2.0, lan sound - will support 333 fsb (bartons)
i picked the epox cause they have the best oc reputation - right now running at `1833 cause it supports folding and haven't had much time to play with it I do have a 2100 tbred b in the briefcase though
with a radeon 8500 64mb stock ~ 10k 3dmarks
chottoed has the asus and he seems to like it too
#1 son is gonna get the shuttle

Man, you think yours is old? LOL, I built mine back in Sept of 2001, 1.33 Ghz Athlon. still running strong today.
really, i don't need anything too powerful, this is great for me. But, I'll upgrade soon enough..I haven't had time to play any games lately..
(sorry, a bit off-topic, I was just a little surprised.
