questions about my p3 slot and overclocking and general

Post by Absolut Talent »

i bought this processor a while ago along with an Asus p3v4x off of another forum. never really gave it much thought. Just needed something to make a second system out of

now, i took the system apart to see excatly what it was.

It is a slot pentium3 700.
the markings on the top are :

700/256/100/1.65v S1
90260186-0201 malay
iMC '00 SL3XM

So this means it is a 700mhz, with L2 256cache, 100mhz fsb and runs at 1.65v
Dunno what the other things mean.

I did some searching on it and found that it is a cB0 stepping and it was specified from intel as being a "boxed processor with attached fan heatsink"

well when I got it, it didnt have an attached heatsink. I have been using a Alpha Pal p3125 on it. But when I sit it on my mobo, the side rails dont hold the processor cause there is a gap of about a quarter of an inch on both sides. Its mostly been sitting on the motherboard with most of the weight's pressure on the processor slot and on the processors conenctors. Anyway I can get it so the side rails can hold the processor in place? Its kinda pointless to have them in there without a reason. And is there supposed to be a top rail on it as well? one that connects the 2 side rails?

Next set of questions is about the overclocking.

I havent done much in the way of overclocking. Ive only done the FSB and vidcard. But what are the multipliers? What do the numbers mean?Do i have to change any of them to overclock this thing?

I kinda wanna take it to 933 or so.

First of all for example 100mhz times 4 multiplier would give you 400mhz. But sadly Intel chips cannot be unlocked unless they come unlocked from intel. Only way to overclock most intel chips by increasing the FSB. Keep in mind slot 1 processors were not good overclockers naturally, the socket 370 would overclock about 200-300mhz above stock speed.

so its the FSB times the multiplier that gives you the mhz?

i have been reading about this processor a little more...
seems as though the cB0 stepping models of the sl3's can get up the ghz mark with some standard air cooling.

doubt I will get up there....but i will try

Ya, the Front side bus time the multiplier in this case gives you 700mhz

Did it work?

I got the same cpu and had it on an MSI BX Master mb, worked great at 933 with a bit more voltage, 7 x 133=933

I have the tualitan model of your mb and it doesn't have any voltage adjustment so that may slow you down if you dont have them in your bios.

With that via chipset, the 133fsb is fully supported for agp/pci dividers.

My slot wasn't a tight fit for those side rails either.
