MS Wireless Keyboard Mod?

Post by RubberDuckie »

I currently changed from a wireless keyboard/mouse combo to a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse (light mouse). This is attached to my TV and my previous wireless would reach a good 20'. now this MS wireless will only reach about 3'. I have to pull the remote out and put it near me everytime I want to use it.

Does anyone know of a Mod to the receiver in order to increase the range? (ie add an external antena)

BTW: the MS keyboard is this one: HERE

You're picking up interference from something. Could be your computer - if it's home built you may not have proper shielding.

There should be a way of forcing the mouse and kybd to change channels which might give you better reception. Usually there's a hole on the bottom of the mouse the you push the end of a paper clip through and that forces it to reconnect on a different channel - there should also be a button on the receiver.

i have that exact same combo...and it's much better than 3 ft. range. FP is right, it's probably interferance.

what about the obvious: old batteries? change 'em and give it a try. :)

Duck... change the batteries. The batteries that come with them usually are crap, and there's no way of knowing how long they've been lying around on some warehouse shelf.
