Pencil Trick

Post by matt719 »

Hey, i have a secondary water cooled athlon 1000 system up and running that wants to be overclocked badly :) Unfortunately, it's one of the newer tbirds so i will need to use the "pencil trick" to get the multiplier moving. I think i basically understand what to do, but i would love some pictures and a nice how-to... Anyone know of a how-to online somewhere, or maybe someone that could just describe it real well? Thanks.

it all depends on which cpu you have - if it is a regular ol' tbird - then get out a magnifying glass and connect the L1 bridges, it that doesn't work try rear window defogger paint - applied it with a pin

anand and toms both had pics

i thought the pencil trick was only good on the older ones.

or was it only the newer xps that had the little "pothole" in them?

yeah, since i know i'm unlocking my cpu in the next few days.... you got to fill the potholes with normal expoxy 1st... then the silver enamel....

But if the L1 doesn't have the pits.... then just use the pencil trick.... but after you do that put cellophane tape over it.... otherwise you'd have to do it every 6 months!

I like the tape idea.
I found it was also easier to do this with the chip in the socket and a credit card as a guide (before the board was installed).
