weird Win2k Crash

Post by wvjohn »

was downlaoding a bunch of stuff at once - locked up - had to do a restart and no boot the first two times then it apparently went back to last good config - looks like the all the user stuff (favorites, email setting and messages went bye bye) although it did boot into the correct user

not that much there 'cause this was a pretty new build but odd

norton didn't find anything

Well restoring to the last known good config wouldn't affect your favorites or messages but it would blast your email settings. Last known good config just restores an older copy of the registry.

If the drive checks out then you probably just had a hiccup. I wouldn't worry too much, but I'd make a Ghost image of the system once you have it all setup the way you want it. If you do lose it all later, it's easier to restore to that then do a re-install.

the drives checked out - the last good config was probably the clean install i did about a week ago - there is some data corruption in the installed programs - some won't run - i guess i will just reformat when i have time - i don't have much on that computer anyway -

Any programs installed after the date when the restored registry was made may not run because the registry entries for the program are gone.
