Outlook has gone bonkers

Post by dsjmmm »

I don't know what happened to my e-mail, I just installed xp office pro, in doing so I also changed to outlook, I use a desktop utility from my dsl provider that lets me know how many unread messages I currently have, but when I launch outlook it shows me no new messages in the inbox, now I know that I had mail because I e-mailed myself. So I think I'm getting e-mail but not getting e-mail ,if you know what I mean. This was working just fine before the install, does anybody recall something like this happening to them?

Thank for any suggestions.

You sure you have Outlook configured properly with the correct POP3?

What were you using before for Email? Have you tried your old email program to see if it's getting mail? If the old program is running in the background all the time it may be downloading your mail before outlook can get it.

Well thank you for that reply fp, you hit the nail right on the head with outlook express grabbing my messages before outlook can get them. When I accesed outlook express it asked me if i wanted to make it my default mailer , so then I am assuming that outlook is now the default, yet it still is not letting me send messages or receive. I did make sure that my POP3 id was right.I have been looking for a way to correct this but have been so far unsuccesful. I will try to poke around more later on it, if you or anyone else fire off.

Default Email app just means that it's the app that comes up when you click on an email hypertext link.

Express won't steal your emails unless it's running. First come first serve - whichever email app downloads them first gets the messages unless you configure it to "Leave messages on server".

There's really nothing special involved. Outlook is just a fancier version of Outlook Express.

When you ran the profile wizard and created the account, I assume you selected POP3 email and NOT any of the other options?

If your POP3 and SMTP server settings are configured the same as in Express it should work fine.
