New info on Duke Nukem Forever

Post by Slugbait »

OK, so it's news you probably expected. Ripped from planetduke.com's updated FAQ:

* 3.31 - What level is DNF's technology at right now?
To answer this question, we have a quote from George Broussard: "We're not UT level tech.
(editor's note: no shit?) We're using some of the ut2k3 stuff. Static Meshes are nice. We've written a tremendous amount of our on rendering code over the last year. I don't really think we will even be recognized as an Unreal engine game at this point." (editor's note: we barely recognize Duke Nukem anymore, putz...)

LOL!

Are these people SERIOUSLY still working on this game? Those of old enough to remember who Duke Nukem is will probably be DEAD by then....

Sometimes I'll look at the movie that 3DRealms had out about a year or two ago of DNF gameplay and then I'd wish they'd just finish the damn game and not get so wrapped up in 'feature creep'...

The initial problem was changing from the quake 2 engine to the unreal engine. 3drealms said that will only put them 2-3 months behind schedule.

Then they decided to change again to the newer unreal tourny code and then supposedly change the code to suit them more.

After that they said the release date is "when it's done". That's been their standard answer for the past 3-4 years.

Actually, they are currently waiting for the unreal 3 engine then afterwards possibly change to the new quake 5 engine. Then after that they will wait for the unreal 7 engine only to change again to the quake 9 engine. etc..

Then of course they must wait till 3dfx makes their comeback with the new voodoo super fx, which should be sometimes by the year 2015. Followed shortly (years) by the new nvidia super duper xxx.

3drealms also has asked to "thank you all for your support and your loyalty". "Your wait will not be in vain as the game will kick butt by the time you are all confined to a wheelchair". But by that time a mouse or kb will not be needed, you just need to move your eyes. 3drealms is thinking only of you gomers.

Actually it was coded for the Quake3 engine when they made the switch.

Not to argue :p but I distintly remember it was originally coded with the quake 2 engine. Then after unreal came out and everyone raved about that engine, they wanted to switch.
