My K7S5A Won't Boot..
Hey All.. I got a new mobo/proc/ram & case fro x-mas and it won't boot. I've pulled and reseated everything, my Saphire 9000 is seated properly, and it's getting power. All the fans spin, it just doesn't post. No beeps, no nothin'. No while I was in the case, I noticed that it looks like the dip$hit my dad bought it off of might have killed the board. If you're looking into the case at the board, the bottom left corner has a scrape/chip. You can see gold where it should just be pcb, and the scrape is outside of the safety zone for the screw. Would it be safe to assume the board is dead? I haven't thought to put a smaller processor in the board yet, but I will try that next and let you guys know what I come up with. I'm gonna be highly pissed if this board is dead, since my dad bought it over 2 months ago, and the guy is more than likely gonna say tough shit when my dad brings it up to him. If it's dead, any good recommendations for a mobo that uses SD-Ram? I've also got an Asus a7V133 I couldn't ever get to post. It just makes some stupid ass siren noise that supposedly doesn't exist. It has a phoenix bios. Any help you guys can give me is much appreciated!!! TIA eGo

If possible swap the RAM or try them one stick at a time in each slot and also as you've said, try swapping the CPU. If that don't work, then I would say you got yourself a dead board
Good luck.

Diff. Proc.. Still No Go..
Well, I just put a T-Bird 1.4 in and it still doesn't post. I bought two brand new sticks of kingston 128mb/133 yesterday, and neither or them make a difference. Also tried the two 512/133 I bought for it originally, no go with them either. I tried both a PCI and an AGP video card, I know they both work, because they were in two other computers prior. All the fans are cycling... So I'm guessing it's just a dud.. Oh well. Cest La Vie.. Any Recommendations on a NICE mobo that uses SDRam and DDRam so that I don't have to buy DDR right now? TIA! eGo....

Hey Ego,
Sorry for the delay in posting, I've been off the boards for a couple of weeks.
Be REALLY careful with that mobo!! My friend changed his CPU (or at least attempted to!) and it had killed three CPU's (two of his, one of mine!) before I noticed the score on the PCB next to the CPU socket - obviously a result of him using a screwdriver to remove the HSF and it slipping off.
Usually when you get no beeps and fans spinning, it means the CPU is dead...
Best of luck, I hope you get it sorted out!

Before you give up....
eGoCeNTRoNiX: I have an Asus A7V (not the A7V133 version) that one time had that warbling siren sound you described. It happened after flashing the bios, and I thought I had killed the board with a bad bios flash. However, a good reset of the CMOS did the trick! So, pull the plug from the machine, pull the power supply connector to the mainboard, remove the battery, and short the two pins to clear the CMOS. Do this for at least 15 seconds. You might even have to set the FSB to 100 with a jumper - I seem to remember this as a jumper position on that mainboard, but it's been about a year since I messed with it.
On the newer mainboard, at least try the CMOS reset procedure as described above. Also, remove all devices that aren't necessary for booting - even the hard drive. Just use a W98 boot floppy and see if you can make it into DOS and the A prompt.

is that a k7s5a from ECS? (elitegroup computer systems)
http://www.ecs.com.tw/products/pd_spec. ... uct_id=192
I have built 2 systems with those boards, both with a 1.4 t-bird 266
I have had absolutly no probs whatsoever with those boards
And those are one of the few good boards that use both 133 and 2100 ram

Re: Before you give up....
Thanx BigAl, Gonna try this useful tidbit when I get home and see what happens. The ECS board is shot, but I have found others just like it for about $50 so it looks like that's what I'll be buying again in the near future.Originally posted by Bigal

Those of you that have them, is setting the multipliers and so on pretty easy when it comes to overclocking? Because if it is, I'm fixing to buy a nicer case and plan on doing some experimenting w/overclocking. I know I'm limited on the FSB as far as most of the newer boards go, but since I don't have the money to buy one of the nicer newer chips I'd be overclocking one of the two chips I have right now, a T-Bird 1.4 and an Athlon XP1900+... Any idea whether or not the board would produce some nice OC's? Well, once again, thanks to all who have posted here. I'm gonna take a picture of the mobo tonight to show the damage and see if y'all agree with me on that part. eGo

Asus.. And Pics of ECS
Ok.. Maybe it's just me.. I'm having trouble locating the CMOS jumper.. It's not clearly labled in the manual and It's not labled on the board. I'm gonna keep looking for now, but if anyone has the A7V133 let me know where the jumper is please!! On the other hand take a look at this board.. lol.. This is what the dip$hit sent my dad..

Rev 1.05
It's a Rev 1.05, and there is a spot where it looks like there should be a jumper between the battery and the cap that is marked Clear CMOS+ but like I said, there's no jumper.. Can I try touching a piece of wire to both points with the power unhooked and battery popped on the board? But there aren't any prongs for a jumper.. Any recommendations? To all those who have tried to view those pics in the above, my apologies if they did not work. I'm going to try to get someone to host them for me. TIA ! eGo

Just short the two pads....
eGoCeNTRoNiX: Just short the pads where it says to clear the CMOS; there is no jumper on this board. Regarding the pictures, they are not available. Good luck!
