I've been out of the picture too long. I want to research into building a new computer. Someone mind directing me to some new reviews on some good motherboards? :)

Maybe most are away for Thanksgiving. Good to see ya back Sean. :)

A new best mobo eh, hmmmmm. I haven't kept up with them much recently either but the 400a ones should be out soon. Till then I'd get a kt333 mobo, something like an Epox, or Asus. I use a gigabyte kt333. Good mobo, but not good for oc'ing.

Right now the Epox 8K3A and 8K5A series are both top notch stability wise and overclocking wise. both at kt333 8K5A just has some new things like USB 2.0 and onboard lan. Right now stay away from the kt400 and wait for the kt400a... lto of problems with the kt400 and the kt333 actually is performing better than it is.

i have seen some good stuff from the soyo kt400 dragon ultras (I am thinking of purchasing one soon so I can ditch my craptastic MSI 266)

despite it being a 400, it is providing some rock solid performance.

I still havnt seen that much about anything from the nforce2 yet.....but I will be keeping my eyes on it and hopefully it will make me look away from the dragon. But it will still come down to the price issue

dual channel DDR on a XP rig... Is 100% absolutely WORTHLESS!!! single channel DDR is already filling up the max bandwidth that an XP can handle so what good will dual channel do??? not a damn thing... oh yeah might have equivalent of pc4200 but what good does that do if the chip can only handle 2100 or 2700?? not a damn bit of good. Now with granite bay and P4's hell yeah dual channel will help assloads with it. But right now for xp's its worthless I'm not dogging the Nforce2 chipset at all i hope its stomps the hell out of anything that via has to offer if it does i'll probably get one of those once i get tired of my 8K3A+

As far as soyo boards go they are good boards. I still wouldn't get a kt400. They are good boards for mild overclocking and default use. Lot of it depends on what you want. If you want stable to moderate overclocking most if notall will work decent. If you want extreme overclocking Epox owns the house...

well.......i would be currently running a xp1800, but the only thing I would plan on OCing would be the fsb and vid card for now.
Once I start watercooling, I will prolly unlock my xp to overclock......but that wont be for a while so i am sure something better will be along by then and the soyo would be fine for me
