Credit? What's that?
Man, I mezzed my credit up BAD about 2 years ago. I got married, and I had one card.. And then I applied for more, and they just kept coming in the mail.. I had almost 20 by the time I couldn't afford to pay for them!! lol.. Needless to say, I ain't got no credit anymore, I pay cash for everything, but I have paid off all my bad debt.. lol.. eGo

Yea, THAT sucks!
I have 1 I use, and the rest are jsut there incase that one doesnt work or they have some kind of deal going on. I pay Mine off at the end of each month though. Longest I let them slide is 2. Few years ago I wasnt good about it, but had enough of that.

I dont have any yet
I dont have any credit, so whenever I apply i get declined for basically everything
But in december, i can getmyself one of those mastercard charge/debit cards through my bank cause I havent bounced a check. I was told if I dont bounce a check for 6 months, I will automatically be able to get a mastercard through the bank
so not much longer now

Try Discover?
Are you under 18? I applied for a Discover card right after I turned 18 and they gave it to me with a $1k line and I had a crap job. So give them a shot if you really want one.. But they're more trouble than they're worth in some cases. GL! eGo

I have a debit that I'm finding is real easy to use
The actual card is in my moms name but the checking account is in both mine and my moms. It's so easy to spend money
Ya see something you like and you just buy it....heh. I really need to get a "special online" card cause I don't like pimpin' out my debit card # <img src=http://mywebpages.comcast.net/hipnotic_ ... es/sad.gif>
I'm finally starting to save a little here and there though, I have $400 in the bank--thats the most I've had without plans of spending it for years! Once I get about a grand I'll put it away into a CD or a savings account--some place I won't be able to touch it and then only put like $50 in my checking each paycheck for gas/misc stuff online.

I have 2 - one Amex Cash-back which I use for all online purchases. Amex has a security department made up of rabid wolves - whenever someone's tried to screw me I've released the hounds of war and gotten great satisfaction. I highly recommend Amex for online purchases because they really look out for you.
I also carry a Visa for emergencies (car breaks down, etc).
That's it. I also DON'T carry a balance. I never buy anything I don't have the money for in the bank. It's absurd the way credit card companies have the American public BRAIN WASHED into carrying a balance. You might as well just throw your money away.
What's the point in shopping around for a good deal on something, then carrying the balance for a few months and paying MORE than what you orginally saved when you pay the interest charges?
And those of you who think you have bad credit - unless you've filed for bankruptcy or MAJOR defaulted on some loans, believe me SOMEONE will give you a credit card with at least $1000 credit. As long as you have a steady source of income.
If you're young you NEED to establish some credit for the future (unfortunately) or you'll have hassles later on. Just use your card wisely. NEVER buy anything you can't afford to pay for in cash.
When I was young I was rather reckless with my credit (not as bad as some). A good trick to avoid temptation is to put a strip of electrical tape over your card's numbers. When you get an impulse to charge something the tape will remind you to think twice about it.
Impluse buying is what does you in.

I have 2 credit cards Visa and a Mastercard... the Visa is for emergency's only and the mastercard is maxed at the moment. It only ha sa 300 limit so i'm not too worried. Filed bankruptcy last november and only got these 2 so i can try to rebuild it. I only charge stuff if i can afford to pay it off when the bill comes in. So far i've been good about it.
1 American Express
1 Visa
1 Mastercard
Still looking for a good Visa card after FDIC closed NextBank. Currently considering a Citibank or MBNA card.

been trying to get some sort of cards left and right
I tried for best buy cards, sears, khols, amaco/bp, etc.... And i have been turned down becuase
a) i have insufficient credit
or b) you need a major credit card to apply for a store card.
This is totally crap. I have also tried to get a student visa or mastercard and have also been turned down. I have had a steady job since july (i know it doesnt mean much to people outside of carpenters work) but its pretty damn good since I havent been out of work for more than 3 weeks inbetween companies. How can people be expected to build good credit on their own if they keep on getting declined becuase of insufficent credit?
And these are for the low-end of the credit cards I have tried.
Gone for good. But never say never

Absolute - you can't get a store card until you have established credit with one of the big boys. Get a Visa or Mastercard then the stores will love you.
Although frankly I see no point in the store cards - one good credit card is all you need.

I have 4.
2 Visa
2 MasterCard
All of them have high limits that I've never gotten close to. In fact two of them haven't even been used in the last 18 months.
FP, I usaully agree that there's not much use for a store credit card but Sears cards have come in handy when I needed an appliance replaced and they offered no interest for a year.
