DAMN!!!!
Heil AMD! I don't care if AMD is the underdog, my first desktop was an AMD K6-2 400 and it was the best/most stable PC I've had to date. I've only bought one Pentium since that, and nothing but problems with it. I have two other AMDs that are solid as rocks! I will probably (if it can be helped) never buy another pentium. I'm just not impressed with the one I have, nor the ones I have worked on. So for me, AMD will always be in my boxes! eGo

ya know rogue your shitty attitude sucks... couple of other posts you gotta be a dick in it. Performance wise they are pretty much identical with the P4 getting a few benchmarks and the AMD getting a few. And oh wow 10 -20 dollars more if you can afford taht much i don't think another 10 is gonna break the bank. When and if AMD goes under you'll be wishing they were around still when Intel is screwing you right up your ass. Only thing keeping the prices where they are right now is the competition. I remember when the P3 500 SECC2 came out. They wanted 900 bucks for that. Is 400 for a top of the line processor from either Intel or AMD that badly priced?? LOL
Jeeze, its not like I hate Amd - My current rig is an overclocked 1600+ on a KT266a. However, the P4 2.8 appeals to me right now for several reasons. It has more memory bandwidth than the XP, runs cooler, and I like the current set of Intel mobos more than anything AMD has (I845PE and E7205). The 2800+ has great potential for overclocking, but I want my next system to be quiet and have 512k L2 cache. As for shitty attitude..since when is it wrong to voice my opinion? Must I remain quiet because I may think differently about a matter?
Welcome to the machine.

As far as AMD vers Intel, if AMD is in need of a few bucks I'll send them a hundred, no problem!
Does Intell need some, oh well, good bye Intel.
I been around the Intel word when they were the ONLY choice before. Do we forget the 386SX 486SX and other lowlife chips at high prices! I had a few of those, so ya Gimme AMD's address and my check book if a measly hundred will help keep them around!
I've still got my AMD 486 DX 4 100 and it out performs the Pentium 133 I have! Granted both are snails by todays standards, but they still do the same work as when they were new! AMD just does it better!
Heck I would even send fifty to Cyrix if they could pull away a bit of intels market!

I love that last option.
And about this whole AMD and Intel thing. Personally, I am going to do my best to stick with AMD for as long as I can. THe main reason is price, AMD has always had lower prices, and it just appeals to me more. Than I have things to argue about with my friends. Also, I have no knowledge on Intel Systems, I have concetrated mostly on AMD systems, because that's what I planned on sticking with. Intel systems may be quieter and may have more bandwidth, but than what's the fun is TRYING to make your computer quiet, or TRYING to make your bandwidth as fast as those that have Intel systems. I know after I built my first AMD system, I spent time and money modding my case for 92mm fans to make my system quieter. Recently, I just leave my fans on full (on the fanbus) night and all. I am used to it now. Hmm, I think I'm just rambling on now.
Anyways, that's just me. I'm done now.

anyone that bashes amd shouldnet, if amd died, intel would jack there prices up and become asses like micro$oft. think about it, if there was a real competition OS againt microsoft, there OS price would be much lower. Same thing with intel and amd, thats how prices get lower, competition.
Same thing with Ps2, gamecube and xbox.

As a wee follow on to the AMD vs. Intel 'debate'...
My first PC had a DX2-66 from Intel in it, and while it was OK in it's day, I always had problems with it. My next PC was a Pentium 100 (woohoo!!) and initially it was fine, but over the course it became very unstable (probably due to my ineptness with OS's and so on).
My next one was a K6-2, 500. Wow! What a difference!! An absolute flying machine (well it would be by comparison with a P100!!) and no discernable problems, no instability, no EMM386 errors!!! Super bonus!!!
My next was an XP1800+, which lasted for about 3 months because I just NEEDED more Mhz. Step in mister 2100+. Hallelujah!!
My next move will be for a XP2400+ because thats the limit for my mobo. After that we'll have to wait and see but rest assured it will be an AMD setup. Why? Because I have had no real problems (only self -inflicted ones!) with AMD. Intel cost more and from experience don't deliver.
It's true there is an argument at the moment for Intel with their 3.06Ghz processors but in all fairness how much are you paying for these chips? Look at AMD - they're not so far behind that they're out of sight.
AMD are more to appear in a couple of months with a world beating chip (once again) and it'll STILL be cheaper that an equivalent Intel chip.
Maybe not quite, but hey, we can all dream and I believe....
Live long AMD! And prosper!!
Cheers!
