Am I the only one this happens to.....
You've just built a new computer complete with plexi window, lighting, etc etc and you just can't leave well enough alone. A month or two later you might see a new thermal probe you've just gotta have, or a nice cold cathode or purrrty heatsink, not to mention a 2nd or 3rd hdd, a 2nd or 3rd OS, and, heaven forbid, a new mobo. The list goes on and on. For each of these things you buy you have to add wiring or cables and, if you use something like split loom you have to open up the suckers to allow for the new wires.

Now you've either made your beautiful wiring look less than beautiful. Or maybe you knocked out an IDE cable and put it back reversed, or loosened a connection. Now you need to rewire from scratch, or recable, or whatever. And while putting in a new OS you crash your hdd. Occasionally you might burn out a mobo or short out something else. And while you're reinstalling you decide your 40 gigs aren't sufficient even though you only have 5GB filled. Then of course, you have a bunch of left over parts, so you may decide to build a 2nd computer with them. And you take chances with your pride and joy that you would never do to a friend's machine.

Does this only happen to me?

LOL no your not the only one... I have enough spare parts to put together a 366 celerong system for my girls and just added 160 gigs to my alread y200 gigs i have... i was only running with about 10 gigs free outta 200 though

Yea, I do that all the time when I used to have $. still sneek a thing or 2 but once I start rolling in the green again ill be playing like that is no tomarow.

I started out simple enough - a Packard Bell and then a Compaq, but that wasn't enough. I needed more power, more computers, etc. Once the kids started getting into gaming, there was no stopping me. I helped my oldest son build his computer when he was 14; I built another one for my other son when he was 11. We game every weekend, with four machines that are capable of playing the latest games like Unreal Tournament 2003 or Medal of Honor.

But you know what? I can't stop doing small things. I'm into the modding stuff now, and putting in pretty cold cathode lights (tri-color looks real sweet) and Rheostat busses just gets me going. There is nothing like building a machine yourself. The basic assembly is easy - a kid can do it with a few instructions. But building a powerful machine that runs well and looks hot is a different story. That's the level we are all striving for, and you get there by learning each time you build another one.....

Bah! I don't care WTF it looks like, as long as it runs fast enough for my games and Photoshop.

I'm using the same case I bought 4 years ago - it's been through 3 mobos. I like how roomy it is.

I never could understand this case-modding thing. It's a computer and unless you take it to a LAN party no one ever sees it. Mine sits in a corner and a case window wouldn't even be visible.

I guess i'm just a freak cause after this next weekend all of the computers in my house will have windows in them. Its a hobby something to do... You start out with one and gotta go onto the next to improve your previous one. All 3 of the comps in my house are very visible and its fun to wow your buddy's when they come over

Story of my life. Everytime I get into my case, be it for something simple or something like switching a mobo I either break something in the process (only my machine though!?) or I find something I need to upgrade.

Hell, I was at newegg about to order a new mouse and was thinking of other things I could buy...

...hehe, money is too easy to spend online.

i just end up building one to try something new, and the never get arounds to selling the old ones

today i gave my dad my old k6-500/gf1 for an internet computer. not so long ago i thought that rocked!

that means the houselhold is down to a 1.6@2.2, 1600xp, 1.0 bird, 1.2 bird p3-500 and two lappies

the older machines are all tagged for the kids, as soon (if they ever do) clean up their acts

did sell the ak31/1.4 combo though

more than anything else it's just a hobby where i can putter around for not a lot of money - i never even put the cases fully back on because if i leave the sides off i don't need as many fans

i havnt been real into modding yet. Only doing little stuff (one window, couple blowholes on top of cases) I still gotta install a cathode in my main rig. I have been putting it off since august, just not sure where I want to mount the switch.
