Gahhhhh.......via can bite my arse!!

Post by Absolut Talent »

i just downloaded the newer 4 in 1s (v 4.43) to install on my system

I run the update normally
I restart my system like I always do

when my system restarts, and windows is done loading up, i am promted with the "new hardware detected"
I am thinking, wtf is this? It is looking for the viaagp1.sys file to install some cpu to agp filter. I have never had this problem before. So i look through my driver cd that came with my mobo. I cant find anything named viaagp1.sys. So i open up the 4 in 1 that I DLed and extract the file named viaagp1.sys. I direct the new hardware wizard to that file. After it acts like its installing it, it says it cannot install the hardware cause the specified file can not be found.

I cant figure out what is wrong, so I said fuck it and im reformatting and gonna install the old 4.42s

has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone else had problems with the 4.43s?

system specs too:
AMD Xp1800
MSI k7t 266-pro
384 pc2100
seagate 7200 80gig ata 100/133 (forgot which it is)
SB Audigy Gamer
Visiontek gf4 4600

A reformat is rather extreme isn't it? You can probably just uninstall the new driver and re-install the older one.

4-in-1 installs usually go very smoothly. The installer should have put that file on the drive. I'd try again but do a file search for that file on the drive.

First off OS would be helpful and if its XP it has a cool driver rollback feature that works nice. I tried the 4.43's they suck AGP performance went down ide performance went down. I'm still using the old 4.38's on mine. Offers the best performance wise and stability wise. Figure why upgrade when it works just fine now.

opps
forgot the most important part

its win2k

and I mean it FUBARED the system,i thought it would be easier to reformat than dick around with what was wrong. I did try to uninstall the drivers (the option in normal mode) but it still didnt work. like it had no effect
I tried to reinstall an older version, still no effect

i am thinking, maybe i should go back to the 4.83's, I do remember that my scores dropped withthe newer ones
