password protecting cd-r

Hello once again everyone,

I had a quick question this time that I can't seem to find in a search online. I want a program that will allow me to password protect my CD-R's. I have some critical business data that I want to burn to CD-Rs and CD-RWs that I don't want anyone but me to be able to view and access, so that is why I need this. Does anyone have any idea of how I can do such a thing? Does anyone else have any experience with this?

i've never heard of anything that will do that...

what type of files are they? you can just use passwords on the files individually....or zip everything and password protect the .zip from within winzip.

NTI BackupNow! will backup files to CD-R and password protect them.

A less expensive way would be to put your files in a password protected zip file and then burn the zip file to CD-R.

thanks all....I didn't think about zipping with password protecton....musta slipped my mind. And as for prodiGyBNTY, maybe you like to look at kiddie porn.....but I would think that anyone that does would need more help with hiding it than simply zipping it up so that it can be cracked anyways. If I did look at kiddie porn, I would be more careful than to put it on CD-R's. Now, with that said...thanks all for your help. The file types will be ranging from Word, Excel, and Access files that need to be secured for only my use. My business computer is pretty secure, as it is not on my network and never has nor never will connect to the internet.....and it is passworded out da wazoo....just don't want other stealin my stuff. Thanks once again all...and sorry for the ramblin.

You can password protect word, excel and access files. I believe it is while u are "Save As". It is in there just look around for it. I would trust that more than I would trust a winzip password.

Just checked. On word2000 and Excel2000 it is under "Save As" > "Tools" (upper right hand corner) > "General Options". In Access2000 it is under "Tools" > "Security" > "Set Database Password". Hope this helps. For added security after passwording all these files pack them into a zip and password the zip using a different password.

Then u could go into WinRAR and then put the zip into winrar and password the rar. Then go into winace and password the acefile

All with different passwords. Just dont get confused and forget which password goes where!
