Morpheus has hosed up my IE

Post by Koo Koo Mouse »

Hi guys,

Dang Morpheus has done it to me again. This is twice now. It locks up IE, but only on SOME sites.. (PCA is one) Loads the page and locks.. Mouse moves but no go. A stomping on crl+alt+del will get me out with a lot of pc speaker cracklings. This is after morf and all its crap have been removed.

I was able too get IE running again the first time buy downgrading to IE 5 and all was well.

How did this happen again? My son in law.. Beggin to try again so I do.

Guess what? Same crap! He got his music and all but later on found the web doesnt work. I wasn't surprised.

So today Im trying to get IE 5 (now 5, I never uped back to 6) to not lock and had no success. I tryed upgrading to IE 6 and no change. Now back to 5.

Iv'e ran ad-aware, searched for a traces of morp and its nasty tag alongs and removed/deleted every thing I can find but same problem.

As a test I downloaded netscape 7.0 and it works fine. (I fact I'm using it right now)

Somthing on IE is hosed up. I'm thinking I may have to completely remove IE and reinstall from microsoft website using netscrape. Is that even possible? And how can I even remove IE? Is there a proper way besides just deleting the folder?

I'm just trying to avoid a format or even an install/over if theres an easier way.

Using Win 98se.

Thanks.

I don't have a solution, but have you tried to delete all the temp files in the internet temp folder? You can do the same thing by going into options and clicking on internet options. How about re-installing IE on top of it self? I don't think you can un-install IE as it's tied to the OS (thanks ms). If I come across more info, I'll post back.

add/remove progs? sure u thought of that but ne how. bout installing IE6 with netscape, ya u would hafta dl it from microsoft, but u can't us windows update with anything but IE, unfortunately if thats what ur talking about. only thing about IE is that it not only controls internet but regular browsing is integrated too (i think, correct me if im wrong). morpheus does suck, i use kazaa lite, but i think im done with all the spyware, goin winmx although i never did like the format...

If an upgrade to IE6 won't fix it I'm stumped. An IE6 update essentially entirely replaces all your IE core files.

I'd run Adaware to see if there's some Spyware running causing your problem.

Also check to make sure that IE isn't configured to use a proxy server (some of that P2P crap does that).

Hey Thanks all.. I did everything suggested above an still the beast (problem) would not die..
The last straw was comimg home from work and the wife tell me she cannot play bejewed. (A simple popcap game she loves). It makes a nice little hour glass that never goes away. never loads...
I had thought the problem was browser related after hearing that I had to think different. But I do know morpheus did this!!

Reloaded windows over the top.. same probs.. I gave UP!

I began to format the drive and while it was doing so I picked up win xp home at office depot (upgrade, I did not have 200 for the full :( ) I sure as hell can't see going though a format and 3 days of hell getting everthing back to normal without at least upgrading the OS.. Perfect oppertinity. :)

So far so good. Looaded 98 and did the upgrade. BTW found out you CANT run winxp setup in DOS. Had to try though.

This xp is a new world to me here... But its working!

Thanks again Guys.
