WANTED: Geforce2 MX PCI card

Post by FlyingPenguin »

Need it for a dual monitor setup. Using a Savage4 right now, but it's flaky.

Thanks.

you know, ati now sells the 7500 as a PCI card. Its dual display is better and its a faster card then even the gf4 mx 420's.

Hi Greg,

#1: Never shall an ATI card reside in this machine... well I won't say NEVER. When Doom3 comes out I'll be looking to upgrade my primary card and I'll buy whatever is the best bang for the bucks at that time. ATI right now has the edge, and I have to admit they finally have their act together with drivers. Right now I'm happy with what I have and having spend $600 for a new system I'm in no mood to buy a high-end vid card right now.

#2: Speed of the card is meaningless for the secondary (and I have no desire to replace the GF3 Ti200 primary) - the secondary will never be used as a 3D card, and any modern PCI cards are all going to be about the same performance in 2D. It's the bandwidth of the PCI port that's the limiting factor.

Just need a good secondary card. This Savage4 works okay but there's something flaky about the drivers. It won't support resolutions over 1154x at color depths over 32Bit (which is absurd since it's a 32Mb card) and the desktop on it is MUCH slower than the primary (again I blame the drivers).

I don't think the drivers are fully multimon compliant is the problem. Only driver that seems to work is for the Diamond Savage4 (although this isn't a Diamond card) - every other one I've used refuses to run at all as a secondary display device.

I know there's no issues using a GF2 MX as a secondary, and I also like the elegance of using two NVidia cards with the same drivers to avoid driver issues.

ECLIPSE00: I'd like something better than that, but I'll email you. Might want it anyway for the right price as a spare for client repairs.
