So much for NVidia's claim of 25% improvement with 40.x Dets...

These guys didn't see any improvement at all and actually some very minor loss in performance in a few tests (probably an aberation):

These guys managed to see a whopping 3% improvement:

These drivers are already so well tweaked I seriously doubt there's any more to be gained.

yea, they are smoking somethign heavy with that claim. most I have seen is about 5% if they were lucky. and its usually only in benchmarking.

I showed no increase in Quake 3 fps or 3dMark 2001 scores with the 40.41 drivers on my GeForce 4 Ti4400. Also, for some reason, when using the 40.41 drivers Quake 3 was much darker than it was and I could not brighten it up. I went back to the 28.32 drivers.

well in Americas Army, Morrowind, NWN, and aquanox I saw on average about a 10FPS improvement at 1280x960

note this is with 64tap ani and 2x AA

3dmark went from 12,400 to 13,600 (default)

overall I'm happy....the main advantages seem to be in the vertex and pixel shaders so only later cards will see any benefit....

I dint know guys I am using the 40.41 drivers on a TI200 my 3dmark score went from 8100 to 8400. I dint play any really new games but frame rates in all my old games are all up at least 10fps and more in some games. Quake III did seem a little darker but I was able to adjust it in the game and it looks fine now. Not that these gains are really that big or great but I have had no problems with them so see no reason to go back either. I am going to stick with them until I run into a problem with them or another new and better driver comes out.

Anyone find a refresh rate fix for the new Dets?
---------
EDIT
---------

Found this on the Newsgroups but I haven't tried it (haven't got the 40.41 dets installed), there might be a built-in refresh override in the new dets:

Someone else mentioned the trick to this -- just change the coolbits
registry entry to 12 or higher (12 decimal, 0x0000000C hexadecimal) and
you magically get a "refresh rates overrides" tab in the "More Direct3d"
dialog, allowing you to specify the refresh rates for each resolution.
