ok, im trying to fix a friends comp with a <a href="http://www.pcchips.com.tw/M741LMRT.html"> M741 LMART </a>
motherboard The problem is that it will not boot, i have a pc diagnostic card that indicates the original power supply's -5v rail has failed. i tryed a new ps and it still wont boot. the -5v rail works with that, the memory works and the proc gets warm but no boot. the post card says post stops at 00 on the display set to read at port 80. also the diagrams with jumper settings in the manual on the link i cant access cuz my word proc is crap. note the definition of no boot here is no beeps no video but fans on, lights are on. thx in advance. i think its dead but want a second opinion.
I've run into plenty of mobos lately that seemed to be dead but weren't. Here's what I've noticed seems to work:
- Reset the bios. There's usually a jumper for this which is the preferable way of doing it. Otherwise disconnect the mobo from the powersupply, remove the cmos battery, and short the contacts in the cmos battery socket for 30 seconds.
- Swap the CPU. I've found some mobos that seem to be dead will wake up when they detect that the CPU has been changed (forces a BIOS reset).

i reset the bioes with the jumper and by shorting the batt holder and still nothing, the post card still stays on 00 . unfortunatly i don't have another insmell(intel) celeron proc since mine are all amd. i did turn it on without the proc then put it in after another bios reset. nothing no beeps. tested mem stick it does work .cant test proc. any further suggestions would be appreciated.
If you have jumpers for the FSB and multiplier (unless it's soft setup only) try lower settings.

well thanx for trying but i found the problem. it was the bios chip. i left it on for longer than i did b4, like 15 minutes instead of 5 and sure enough i smelled somthing burning it was melting the sticker off the bios chip. the mainboard was on a peice of as bubble wrap so i know it didnt ground. anyone wanna buy a 466 celeron proc? my friends getting an athlon now & let me keep the old sys for parts.
i think its dead but want a second opinion.
