Vid Card or Monitor Prob?!?!

Post by honz »

hi. first off, thx. pretty sure what the prob is, but wanted some input, as i'm known to be wrong...

awhile ago, MOHAA worked. then recently i get the "Safe Mode" screen bout everytime that i start it up. then few days ago, brings up that screen, and it jus goes in a loop. hit normal mode (or Safe Mode for that matter) and it jus loops back to the same "Safe Mode" Screen. so checked DirectX and it gets errors when i do Direct3D. so i reinstalled the driver, hoping that was it. now i don't even have the choice of testing Direct3D. ***

i have a gf2 mx200 64mb. jus seems weird that it would do everything else just fine, but gaming it can't/won't. Only thing i can think of is that i recently upped the res to 1024x768, and mebbe it fried something on the card. who knows.

ne wayz, thx for the input. hopefully i can get back to MOHAA soon =)

EDIT: also, if it is the vid card, was thinkin like a visiontek extasy gts. that a decent card? i jus need a decent-cheap card, as im broke heading to college. say 50 or less. that is unless some1 has one they wanna sell me...

Have you tried different video drivers and does this happen with just mohaa or any game? And was/is the card overclocked?

I wouldn't suggest a visiontek card for not, not till their situation is figured out. Looks like they are trying to sell, if not they may go under. Then no support.

well, the GeForce 2 should have no problem getting to 1024x768, the SAFE MODE screen doesnt mean that it is the Video card or monitor.... what drivers were you useing ?

well, as far as i know there is only one driver. went to nvidia, and these were the 3 options as far as drivers. this is of course under the win2k drivers...
Detonator XP Driver (Video Cards)
WDM Driver (Personal Cinema)
3D Stereo Driver (for 3D Glasses)

the latter 2 don't seem relevant as mine is just a vid card, no TV out or watnot. and they said that the detonator drivers were universal to all nvidia cards.

no this thing hasn't been touched. i stuck it in, thats bout it, lol. as for the safe mode screen, yes that doesn't mean its the vid card, BUT i guess im leanin towards that, as i cannot get Direct3D, whereas before i had this prob i could.

am i not looking in the right place for the drivers? that could be it i guess.

o ya, when i changed the res, i was messin with the refresh frequency, could this have contributed in someway? and while im askin questions, wtf does the refresh freq do? lol. i didn't notice ne change, so i set it back the the 70mhz default...

thx guyz
