Inkjet printer lives after ink disaster

Post by Koo Koo Mouse »

heh,

I'm at work yesterday and get paged to the sales office to take a look at a printer thats having some problems.
I get in there to find a HP deskjet 952c stuffed into a garbage pail and ink is everywhere. All over the printer (from inky hands grabbing it) all over the desk and all over a distressed woman. I was going to ask what happened but before I could she said " youd better take that and the can toghter! I agreed and got the hell out.
I couldn't bring myself to throw it away and plopped it on my workbench. The ink cartriges were gone.. Hmm. The whole rightside bottom of the metal chassis was flooded. Also under the hood printing area looked as if it had been sprayed with a fine mist of ink! Even the tops of the cartrige holdowns were coated and even the inside the liftup cover.

I'll NEVER know how that happened, but I knew it had to be cleaned.. but how? I tore it down as far as I could finding all those little tricky hidden tabs the we love to hate. Once in there I was hoping to remove everthing that could be damaged by hot water, but after removing the flight bar, ribbon, flying head it was time to stop. Way too much time would be spent removing motors and boards and this isn't even my printer.

What the hell.. I brought the guts over the sink and hooked up hose and srayed the hell of of it. EVERYTHING.. The water ran out of it like black crud oil for a long time till it quit. Back for more parts en spayed them too until every thing was clean and shiny. Then I set up a force air heater to evaporate the electronics overnight.

Did it work?

The next day I pieced it back to gether to find a damn near new looking printer. I called on the company "Guru" asking what to do.. test here or there.. It must be tested and chances are slim. He tells me the after that "inncodent" You can have it.

SWEET!!

I asked my boss if I could borrow our cartiges out of our printer (known working and uses the same) for a night for test purpose and obtained them.

Got the stuff home downloaded drivers for it and Lo and behold it runs perfect.. printing a flawless test page floored me... futher testing no probs.. even printing a 8X10 glossy of a river turned out perfect.

I'll be picking some ink soon as it gained my trust tonight. I'm not worried about corrosion beacuse I belive all the water is outta there. :)

Just thought I'd share my story

Cool, a free printer. :) I used to put my keyboard in the dishwasher until I accidently set it the drying part to high.
I'm not lazy by nature, I work very hard at being lazy.
