thinking of modding my antec sx830?

Post by fearfox »

I was thinking of modding it with a window on the side and two fan holes. What is the best place to get windows of pc case at resonable price. Is it better to buy it with the fan holes already made or its better to make them yourself. First time attempting to mod my case. I was thinking of practicing on a spare case i have here.

what is your advice and what vendors to you buy your mods from?

is there site that sells kool modding stuff?

Thanks

David

I've never made a window but here's a few good sites that sell the kits and the related accessories:

CrazyPC

HighSpeedPC

http://www.xoxide.com

Might get more help in the Mod forum. ;)

Antec is making doors with windows and fan holes in them already. You can buy just the side door now without buying the whole case. Might be worth checking out. The metal on these cases is very heavy. Might prove to be a bear to cut. I am sure you can do it tho.

I have a window and a fan in mine. it was east enough. I used a dremel but probably will use a jig saw next time.

You can pick up a deacent dremel for 50$$ at a hardware store.... althou a chainsaw of shotgun may be of more effect with the sx830....

Hey, it's funny i just put exactly what you are talking about into my Antec case. It turned out great. I got all my parts from http://www.zxmods.com, which is more expensive than KDcomputers, but they have more selection towards modding. Here's my case, and along with some other comments about it:

http://www.pcabusers.com/forums/showthr ... adid=21367

I used a high power saber saw (same thing as jig saw), although a cheap one will do the job (you can get cheap ones for $30). You want a 36tpi (tooth per inch) blade, or atleast relatively high number of teeth for a nice clean cut. It was surprisingly easy to cut it, and i sugjest you drill a hole in the center, then practice in the part you'll be cutting out (get a hang of the tool before you mangle your case) and then slowly cut it out. You'll probably need clamps to hold it in place, and wear saftly goggles. I didn't,b ut i'm very lucky to still be able to see ;) I sugjest going very slow around the corners, especially if you have a complex window design like mine.

I had ZXMods cut out the holes of my window, cause this was my first mod, and i was clueless. Thankfully i gto a lot of support from people at this forum, and it went easily.
