I just pulled the loud HeatPipe HSF and replaced it with an SLK-800 and a Thermal Take SmartFan (80mm). My temps ar higher now, I used AS3 on it. (XP2200+ @ 11x178x1.75v) Should I wire the fan to run on high speed all the time ? My comp is absolutely silent with it on low speed.
HeatPipe Temps:
42ºC Idle - Side cover off
52ºC Load
SLK-800 Temps
46ºC Idle - side cover off
50ºC Idle - Side cover on
No temp for full load yet
Fan speed

Are you sure the SLK800 is pushed mostly to the rear? What happened to me is I had it too far towards the front and without realizing it, the heatisnk slightly overhung the front plastic. Since it wasn't fully contacting the cpu temps were high, once I noticed that and moved the heatsink back temps dropped about 14 degrees.
That may not be the problem but thought I'd be sure.
Also for fun, try the same fan on both heatsinks and see the diff.
Peace and quiet is most good.

Looks like it is all the way where it needs to be. I don't think I'll take it off to try the 80mm on the HeatPipe.
I did drop the voltage down to 1.70v and the temp came down to 42ºC.

I always install the fan first, then attach the heatsink to the mobo. And the chin bone connected to the..
Just worries me moving that heavy sink around, may damage the cpu.
Actually I meant trying the heatpipe fan on the slk800. But I know, too much trouble. But I like doing all that.
Hey, it works!

One of those cables could have been a 1/2" longer for the DVD drive at the top. It almost didn't reach. The wife is gonna kill me if I decide to get a window kit.
I couldn't use the Thermal Take grill on the fan, so I used it on my case to replace the gold wire grill. I need to clean the side a little.
