I was messing around with OCing this 1700+ and Soyo Dragon +. My system clock is set at 135 Mhz and my multiplier set at 11.5. Everything seemed to be OK untill i started folding then i got a BSOD... Maybe i should have listened to Nexus about those Soyo's... With these settings i reached 1552.50 Mhz. Am i just setting it up wrong? If i take the multiplier down to 11.0 its just not good enough. I checked my temp in the bios and it said 49C... or should i depend on this reading?.
alot of questions jumbled in that paragraph... sorry about that.
Thanks
BTW im only using a Volcano 5 at the moment for my HSF
***EDIT***Now this is what have have for one step lower.....
Multiplier =11.0
sys clock = 133.98
SPEED? = 1473....thats only 73 Mhz more
No that is default 1700+ speed. 11x133 for 1.47 gig Adjust your mult up to like 12 and setthe fsb to 133 and bump the cpu voltage up to 1.85... Ask nascarfool what he ran it at but i'm prett ysure it was 12x133.
I ran it at 12x133 @ 1.85v with a CoolerMaster HeatPipe HSF. I didn't run F @ H on it. Sounds like you need a better HSF, I'll be selling my HeatPipe with a 7k Delta early next week. Looking for $20 shipped for it. (you'll need some AS2 or AS3 too) Currently I am running a 2200+ @ 11x178 @ 1.75v and it hits 41ºC idle and 55ºC full load with the HeatPipe HSF.
I have a Soyo Dragon + with an XP1700+. I run mine at 11x140FSB with the memory timings set very aggressive. With these settings it is stable as a rock. If I go to 145FSB I get occasional BSOD running 3dMark. The Dragon is a nice board but not a real good over clocker. Just a side note it also reads temps a little low even in the BIOS. I have a digital read out with the probe attached right to the underside of the CPU core and the BIOS and MBM5 read about 5-7c cooler than the digital read out does
Thanks everyone for your time to reply. Ill try again tonight and even more when i get that heatpipe from nascarfool. I should have waited to get one but i wanted to run it so i went out and got a volcano 5 and slapped it on there. Blade said i should get a heatpipe.
Only bad thing about the heatpipe is the fan is a bit too noisy for my taste (though not as bad as many like the delta fans). But it'll still cool well with a quieter fan. Other good choices include the AX-7, slk800 and 600 and the dr thermal. But that volcano 5 isn't nearly enough for any overclocking these newer amd cpu's. If you get the heatpipe you can try using the fan off that v5 on the heatpipe cooler, when you want peace and quiet.

Aight then, maybe ill try one of those. I read the reviews so i may go that way. order with my blue light fans (no not fans from K-Mart) and silver ide cables from KDcomputers
And, i just got off the phone with them and the new Antec 80mm Blue LED fans DO NOT blink if thats the case ill take 3....
Also, Do you think that the antec 80mm fan at 34 CFM @ 2600 RPMs will keep a Thermalright SLK-800 Cool enough or should i go with a plain black fan... Keep in mind that i want to light up my case with the lights off the fans only so if i get one to cool the CPU that will be a total of 4 blue LED lighted fans....
I didn't mean to talk you out of buying that heatsink from Nascar, he is a great guy too. And that is a very good heatsink.
Those fans look cool, plus I love blue so hmm. But yes, 34cfm is enough for either of those heatsinks and for oberclocking, if your room temp is not too hot and if your case is well ventilated. For extreme oc'ing you might need a little more cfm. But I'd try and see, those heatsinks are very good. I easily reached 1900+ speed from a 1700+ using a silent fan that puts out about 30cfm.
I have a clear fan with blue led's on my slk800 now and it looks darn good, but I imagine the antec ones may look even better. Even one of those fans gives off a light blue glow at night. A few more only helps. Of course it's only worthwhile if you also have a case window or leave the side panel off.
Glad they don't blink. That would drive me bats.
