i can't believe this crap... for the past few years, i've bought my own health insurance through a personal Blue Cross/Blue Shield PPO plan. every 2 months, i get socked for about $250... now i get a letter from them today saying that my premium increased by around $90 every 2 months... WTF?!?!?!?!

I'm on BC/BS as well, and not to defend them too much but we were warned about this months ago - around January.
If you're on a similar plan as me, they phased out the old PPO and the old deductable (I used to have $250 deductable but they've made $500 the minimum now). This was all effective as of this month.
In addition, as you get older you can expect your premium to go up a little every year or 2.
Between my wife and I it's $650 every 2 months. Can't complain though, they've covered her for everything and she's has a lot of medical expenses.

yeah FP, mine is supposed to be one of their newer or newest PPO plans that they came out w/ only about 8 months or so ago. w/ a $250 deductible and 80/20 coverage. i've only been with them for a few years, but i'm still relatively pretty young (23). my rate increase would make it more for me than if they split you and your wife's plan in half
i've checked online and the other big PPO provider up here, Unicare, can save me about $80/month over BC/BS.
i think BC/BS should stand for Blatant Crooks' Bull Sh!t...

Besides the fact with blue cross and shield they do some pretty BS things., i nthe flyer they say one thing like You cant be dropped guarantee but i nthe policy it says they can do what ever they want, all the main ones are like that. its retarded.

My wife's is the expensive one (women cost health ins companies MUCH more than men... hmmm....).
When I signed up 3 years ago it was 250 for me and 350 for her. They raised it once for her already and then they switched plans this month. As I understand it (in Florida at least) you can't get $250 deductable anymore.

Yes, men don't pay attention to their health and just DIE (or living with women kills us).
We are now in the "pay more-get less" mode for everyday medical services and it is going to keep going that way as all the boomers start to get decrepit.
I am a prime example. Injured left knee skiing into a very large rock in 1977. Injured same some more playing football in college, 1978. Blew same knee up completely playing rec league flag football in 1991.
Rebuilt in fall of 1992 for about 15 k, health insurance pays almost all.
Even so, my health carriers have come out way ahead with me. But I think that may start to change...
Monday night I am in the supermarket parking lot and turn to my right to push my empty cart back to the store. I either hear or feel (or both) a sound like a 16 year old kid in Doc Martens stepping on a pair of big june bugs. Left leg locks out as straight as a flagpole. This hurts. What's left of those ligaments and cartilage that weren't removed and replaced earlier have gone to s**t.
Short term plan - more surgery.
Long term - probable knee replacement
This is going to cost some insurer(s?) another 20 k in the short term and much much more farther down the road.
This is an unexceptional scenario for a boomer in his mid 40's. All I did was change direction, but I must have done it in just the wrong way at just the wrong time (particularly since I skied 30+ days last winter). At least I am covered, but my next surgery will cost me and everybody else a little more in premiums. And all you young pups out there will be carrying me and others my age until that big baby boomer poplation bulge evaporates.

AHhhhhh.........................i love being a UNION carpenter
if I get injured on the job, the company takes up the medical bills and I get paid for missed work. AND i also get full coverage as soon as you work 500 hours (which doesnt take long). and I DO mean full. Health, dental, perscription, etc.....
i am happy that I dont need to pay $250 a month for health insurance

Gone for good. But never say never
My insurance through my work don't look so bad then. Its free for me and 112 a month no matter how many family members i put on it. So if i had 10 kids it would be a killer deal. 80/20 200 deduct per person no more than 600 per family. I pay 7 dollars for all generic presciptions and 10 for name brand... My dental insurance sucks only cover cavity's and cleanings but i have decent teeth so i'm not too worried.
