Surge Suppressor

Post by Schwartz »

I have been reading about surge suppressors for a little while now. I am now beginning to believe that MOVs are the work of the devil. They are cheap, they dump the power back to the ground and neutral all at once, and they fail sometimes in explosion or fire.

I found these and from everything I have been able to find they seem to be the best out there. Anybody here have one or know someone that does? What do they think of it? They are also supposed to offer excellent noise filtration as well. They aren't cheap but I guess you get what you pay for and they don't fail like a MOV based unit would.

I had a quick look and to me they look as if it's the same type of "crowbar" protection found in good radio equipment. Yes they work and they work well.Something that often get's overlooked with electronics and can cause alot of headaches is good grounding and protection. I'm not sure anymore but Polyphaser corp. had a site that explained this and much more,It's gearwd towards radio but the principle is the same.
