ATX power supplies?

Post by PreDatoR »

I've got a dead 350 Watt Sparkle sitting here. There a way i can turn this thing on to test it out. I'm sure whatever is wrong with it is minor. There a good site for trouble shooting these things? I looked on google and couldn't find much info on these.

If you want to turn on an ATX power supply, you need to connect pin 14 (a green wire) on the mainboard connector to a ground wire (black). The pinout for the power connector is here

I have not seen any good sites on how to diagnose and fix power supplies. I think that is because diagnosing the problem is not worth the time when replacements are relatively cheap.

Dead PSUs are not worth messing with. As LMandrake says, you can jumper two wires to turn it on. If that doesn't turn it on, it's a deader.

You don't want to replace any parts in a PSU since you're liable to affect the voltage stability. Since a flaky PSU can fry your mobo, ram and CPU.

I'd just yank the fan out (you can always use a spare 8 cm fan) and toss the rest of it.
