computer wont shut down

pretty strange, its a soyo dragon mobo has 1 16x writer 2x dvd 56x rom 60 gb seagate hdd fujitsu 6 gb hdd 1.4 ghz tbird. i checked all cables . they seem plugged in ok. im running win 98 se. when i click shut down it just reboots only thing i changed recently was i put a compunurse temp probe in it. sometimes it does shutdown but mostly it dont.
any ideas?

If I remember right MS has a shutdown patch for Win98. Do you have it installed?

I had that problem with my daul boot XP/WIN98SE. Turned out to be my NIC. So if you have one, try temporally disabling it in Device Manager to see if that's the culprit.

I used to have that problem too......

I found that a reformat got rid of the problem. I think it was a software conflict with some sort of program I installed. It was all mostly freeware......so go figure

Known issue with Win98. Run Windows Update and there should be a shutdown issue update patch.

I had the same problem 'till i replaced the
netgear nic with an smc card.that was on an ad11/win98 1600+.
Is there sftware with that probe?

i downloaded the patch, didnt work. i reinstalled ie 5.5 worked for 2 days. no the probe has no software. any other ideas? its got me stumped. the onboard nic is disabled no other nics are installed. i think it might be yahoo im but not sure. it dont mess up my other comp. i reformatted it worked for 2 days also.
