Did you not read my lost post chotto? I said it can be done. No it isn't a RAID array though, cause it also said at deja.com that you can switch to a regular IDE controller and it will work. All I said was I don't believe it to be a true RAID array because a single drive "array" contradicts what the point of RAID is. And you did say that it was a RAID array, look at your first post. By saying "single drive raid arrarys" you implied that it was a true RAID array. Sorry but when you deny stuff you actually did say it angers me.
The thing that gets me is the manual for the latest Promise RAID controller (FastTrak TX2000, which I will probably get because Highpoint obviously has problems with Maxtor drives) mention a single drive array under RAID 0 setup. Yet they also say that RAID 0 requires a minimum of 2 disks in the manual. It's crazy stuff but hey it says it so I'll say it'll create a single drive array, but it's not a true RAID array.
so i am wrong for using the terms that Promise uses themselves in their own hardware BIOS and documentation?
what angers me, Bubsy, is the fact the prior to you finally looking things up, you denied that function was even available PERIOD without ever even trying that function out...
if you've never any experience with that function, then don't comment on it as if you're the all knowing final authority on that particular function of the promise chipsets
Busby's and my point was Promise can call it ANYTHING they want, but they're misleading the public by calling it an "Array". A single drive is NOT an "Array".
NVidia designates one of their cards as a Geforce4 MX, when in actuallity it's using a Geforce 2 core and NOT the Geforce4.
Such is life.
