Anyone installed the COM+ Rollup update for Win2K? Any problems?

Post by FlyingPenguin »

I installed it on a system that I built for LAN parties and it froze on install. After that, I couldn't right click->properties on any drive in Explorer without crashing explorer. Tried re-applying the update (which applied fine the 2nd time) but no joy.

Tried every trick in the book and gave up. Fortunately I had a Ghost image made yesterday so no sweat, but now I'm leary....

Well it's listed as a "Recommended" not a "Critical" update, so I don't think I'm putting it on any of my Win2K systems for now.

That's the ONE Win2K security related update that I havent done on any PC here as I thought that it was questionable as to whether or not I really needed it. I've done the others so I think I'll stay away from that one after reading this story.

I've since installed it on several systems with no problems.

Hmmm, let me ask you this then....if every other Win2K update's been done, do you think adding the COM+ Rollup update's even necessary?

Yes. It's still listed if you do all the critical updates.

I read a bit on it and it seems that the COM+ update is actually a POST-SP2 (or PRE-SP3) update.

It's not security related - it's mostly compatibility related.

I finally mustered up the courage to DL it on my PCs here (plus the latest update yesterday as well) and no problems.
