I installed it once thinking it was an official release lol :)

Now that it is official seems like all the servers I frequent are still using 117. Anybody actualy use 1.27? I remember it was unpopular all the way up to the release, has that changed, have ID made some concessions?

Quake 3 1.27g

Post by MAC »

Killer,

I've updated to the 1.27g patch. I don't play much online anymore so it doesn't really affect me. I believe most of the server operators are waiting for the Linux version.

I haven't had a problem with the patch except for turning off mouse acceleration and re-tuning my mouse sensitivity.

Cheers Mac :)

Yeah, I remember when I installed the beta versin I never had any probs either and it was all good. The problem is only that with the patch I got around 70 servers without 2000. So I guess I'll wait till all the servers have updated, especially since my favs still run 1.17. I guess your point about the Linux version explains why it's still all at 1.17 while usually the updates are always implemented immediately :)

There is a utility out that will allow you to switch between 1.17 and 1.27 without having to set up a dual install. Check it out at http://www.quakequakequake.com

New patch is out--1.27h It evidentially will give users of nVidea chipset cards a fps boost (one fellow posted a 30% fps increase) and takes care of a few issues, although I don't know if it solves the TA cheat...I have heard that 1.28 is in development tho.

<a href="http://forums.planetquake.com/showmessa ... >Benchmark results here Dirk</a> This patch only upgrades TA/1.27g. The upcoming 1.28 will be a full point release upgrading all versions.

Edit: a little extra info from the readme:

Fixes and Additions
- Fixed James model bug
- CD Key read correctly when starting from Q3A vs TA shortcuts
- Handicap exploit fixed
- Bot routing bug fixed
- Potential 20 FPS increase for some clients :-)
- [Mouse]Sensitivity is back how it was

Quake 3 1.27h

Post by MAC »

Concerning the fps increase with the 1.27h patch for Quake 3, this is a post by Robert Duffy over at the Shugashack:

"FYI: The possible FPS gain is due to how sound was mixed ahead.. Graeme used to mix ahead a set number of frames and he figured out a nice way to calculate exactly how much is needed. The gain or lack thereof will be system dependent etc."

The 1.27h patch didn't increase my Quake 3 fps from what I had with the 1.27g point release(115 fps on demo127)and I'm running a CLAP (6.31 drivers). I did get a few fps increase with the 1.27g patch by decreasing /s_mixahead from 0.2 to 0.1.
