I want to install DIVX but I dont want Spyware

I just did a fresh reinstall of my OS.
I want to install DIVX but I know that Gator comes with it.
Any way to get around that? Or is it a MUST purchase?
Anyone think the purchase is worth it?

just noticed that the non-pro free version doesnt have gator.
I thought it did.

Ummmm.... Divx is a hacked video codec. It's available FREE all over the internet.

Look under Software->Essential Software. I'm still using the 3.11 Alpha release - I had problems with 4.0

3.11 alpha and the 4.0 and 5.0 are not the same DivX different places made them... 3.11 by far is still the best... don't compress as good but the quality is a lot better than 4.0 or 5.0... i've used them all and was not impressed with the 4.0 and 5.0... 3.11 is a hacked mpeg 4 thingymabober... 4.0 adn 5.0 are their own codecs... they are not hacked at all..

The only beef I have with Divx 5.01 is the fact when you advance the movie using the bar thingy in WMP that the picture freezes but sound continues then the picture goes fast to catch up.
