The lower the guage, the thicker the wire, the better the sound.
I would reccommend 16, or anything below. It starts to get expensive though.
I also have a question. How do these mount to the wall. In the reviews, they say the base is reversable? So, you can use those holes to mount it? Can anyone take a picture or something? I'd like to understand how the mounting works.

I'm guessing they are like my klipsch speakers cause I can't see any other way of them doing it. If so, here ya go (and sorry for the crappy pic but I couldn't find any online).
What you have to do is this. I forget what they are called (somebody wanna help me out?) but there are two blue plastic things you pound in first and then you screw the screw in until it's about 1/8th of an inch away from the wall. You do this so that the screws can mount to the wall better, if you were to just put the screws right into the wall it wouldn't hold well at all and the speaker would probably fall off the wall when you start pumpin them up
Now all you have to do is slip the speaker over the screw and slide it down into place.
On the right there would be the base if you are looking straight at it. Those two black "circles" are where the head of hte screw would fit in, and then you can slide it down.

Damn, I probably just made it more confusing for ya
