All on-board RAID chips that I know of can be used as RAID or a regular IDE port.

Regarding the KR7A-RAID. Absolutely. I ran mine that way for a week while I waited for my 2nd HDD to ship.

hey im using a Gigabyte GA-7VRXP, i haven't tried to do to much stuf with it but i haven't had any problems at all with it (absolutly none), it has some onboard stuff but thats easily turned off in hte bios, it explains how to turn something off in the easy setup guide and the manual
