Need some help here..getting a glued chipset HS off! ASAP

Ok, I have spent the last hour or so, moving the damn thing back and forth. Sure, its losening up, but at the rate its going it will use the rest of my day. I need a quick effective way to get my heatsink off. My motherboard's out, and I am all ready to go. Should I just keep going? Try something else?

I just don't know. And I REALLY need to get it off before the day ends as I am gone all day tomorrow and I only have today to get this one off and the new one on. So, if anyone knows what I can do about this, please post what you have done to get a glued heatsink off.

BTW: Its a GA-7DXR Mobo.. I've found it's easier to turn back and forth with the fan on..

take a chargecard or somethign liek it...drivers lisense or what ever and stick it under it. then take a flat head screw driver and place it ontop of the card and twist it. with the card there it wont damage the chip under and you can twist pritty hard. its a nice trick. Or you can try tossing it in the freezer for about 30min. that usually prittles it up pritty quick also.

I have stuck my mboards in the freezer. really helped with my shuttle ak35 to get the heatsink off. they use soem super duper frag tape.

Another thing I did in the past was the same idea with the charge card and then took needle nose plyers in there and started opening them to pry it up.

Nexus, the only reason I decided against the charge card idea was because my HS over-laps on the green edge part of the NB. I don't want to end up ruinging that. Or, does it not matter? Will it be ok? Just in case you don't understand, I am getting the green edge idea from my SB. I have turned the HS enough to see the edge was there, and I don't know if it is ok to scratch, or what?

no, there are circuit traces there. ruin that, and you've ruined your board.

Jim, now that your here. Maybe you could answer some questions. How did you ever get that HS off the 7DX? I am having one HELL of a time getting this off. Is there some fast way for me to go about doing this?

an important step was missed here guys....for gods sake put the mobo in an antistatic bag....then a ziplock....then freeze for about 30 mins...then use the creditcard idea.....

I did that the first time. but after that it was to much work. 30min in a freezer ant gana kill nothing.

DO I need a ziplock bag? Ours don't fit the mobo (the gallon sized ones)...
