Compatibility Issues Between UT and GeForce 256
I finally got my GeForce 256 card to work as it should. It wouldn't handle a bus speed higher than 33 mHz, so I clocked my system back and it works like a charm. Problem is, I keep getting all sorts of fuzzy lines in UT when I play it for more than a few seconds. This only happens in UT. Could someone tell me what's wrong? I'm using all the latest drivers for everything in my system, and the new UT 436 patch.

- First off, the Geforce works fine on an overclocked AGP bus (and the AGP bus is 66 Mhz not 33 Mhz - or do you have a rare PCI version?). If your card isn't working right on an overclocked AGP bus, soemthing is wrong. You're probably trying to run high performance settings for the AGP slot. In BIOS the "AGP Aperature" should be set to 64, and you should disable AGP 4x if it's supported. Most mobos can't handle AGP 4x if they're overclocked.
- You should update your motherboard's Flash BIOS to the latest version. Many mobos did not properly support the Geforce until BIOS updates fixed the problem.
- If your motherboard is for an Athlon, Duron, or uses the Intel 810 or 815 chipset, or uses a VIA chipset you MUST install the latest motherboard device drivers. You can find them on the motherboard manufacturer's web site. This is IMPORTANT. Older AGP-PCI bridge drivers may not properly support the Geforce.
- In UT with a Geforce you should be using Direct3D NOT OpenGL. Check that. You may have to force UT to redetect your vid card so you can changeUT's vid driver. Use the "-firstrun" command line option. make a copy of the UT shortcut and change the command line in the shortcut to add the above command to the end like this:
C:\UnrealTournament\System\UnrealTournament.exe -firstrun
- You should use the latest NON-BETA NVidia Detonator reference drivers instead of the manufacturer's driver - they're generally more stable and give you better performance. Get 'em here: http://www.nvidia.com/products.nsf/html ... ator3.html

Thanks for the reply. I am using the latest release version of the Detonators, the latest VIA 4-in-1 drivers, the latest VIA AGP driver, and the latest mobo and card BIOS. My aperature size is set to 64, and the mobo is set to AGP 2x. It is an AGP card, so I apologize for incorrectly stating the slot speed as 33! My bad! I am using D3D in UT as well. UT seems to be the only game (D3D or otherwise)that locks up like this. Right now, my system is not overclocked, and it still locks up in UT.
UT and the GeForce
Have you updated UT to either the 428 or 436 patch? UT ran like crap on my system with a GeForce until they released the 428 patch.

The <a href="http://www.lokigames.com/~vogel/UT/">port</a> of the Linux OpenGL driver by Daniel Vogel of LokiGames is much better than the one that ships with UT and supports fog, detail textures and S3TC. In my experience, it has been faster than the Direct3D one though your milage may vary.
Uninstall UT, Reboot, Reinstall UT, Reboot, Patch to version 4.36, Reboot. Play.
I had some problems when I patched an older version of UT (4.28) to a newer version (4.36) above procedure worked fine. Make sure you use those det 3 drivers they are the best for compatbility with most games.
